<p>Continuing through the Sermon on the Mount, we explore Jesus’ teaching on fasting in Matthew 6:16–18. Fasting belongs in the secret places, not as an activity to bolster self or gain the approval of others, but as a means of looking less inwardly and more upwardly in dependence on God. We discuss how fasting heightens our spiritual senses, launches us into mission, and never serves as a substitute for obedience.</p>
