When One Miss Follows You Into the Next Play

If one missed shot, turnover, correction, or mistake keeps affecting your athlete's next possession, next play, or the rest of the game, this is the work I train directly with athletes.

https://the-underdawgs-voice.newzenler.com/courses/1-on-1-basketball-pressure-coaching

In this episode of the Underdawgs Voice Podcast, Coach Que sits down with Myleigh Jasinski, a Class of 2030 freshman at Kettering Fairmont High School.

Myleigh explains what pressure felt like at the free-throw line: butterflies, fear, and the thought that missing could disappoint her teammates and coaches.

The missed free throw stayed in her head until another opportunity showed up. Then the game gave her a choice: keep replaying what had already happened, or get back into the work still in front of her.

Later, Myleigh made a game-saving defensive play. Looking back, she said that if she had kept thinking about the miss, she probably would have stayed in her head and not played to the best of her ability.

Her response became one of the strongest lines in the episode:

"Even if I miss this, I still got a game to play."

And later she gave that response a name:

"You always gotta be next play ready."

For parents, that changes what we should watch.

Do not only watch whether your athlete made or missed the shot. Watch what changes after the mistake.

Does their head drop?

Do they get quiet?

Do they rush?

Do they hesitate because they are afraid to make another mistake?

Do they stop communicating?

Or can they return to the next useful job?

One mistake can hurt. The question is how long it gets to control what happens next.

GAME-DAY PARENT TOOLKIT

If you know pressure is showing up during games but you need a clearer plan for what to say and do before, during, and after those moments, use the Game-Day Parent Toolkit.

https://the-underdawgs-voice.newzenler.com/courses/the-game-day-pressure-toolkit

Watch the Underdawgs Voice Podcast on YouTube and listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and iHeartRadio.

Pressure reveals training.

Every Underdawg has their day.

#UnderdawgsVoice #SportsParents #BasketballParents #PressureResponse #YouthBasketball
