Parents Lied About Autistic 5 Year Old's Disappearance. Then she was Found in a River

When John Hayes called 911 on August 30, 2026, he told the dispatcher, "I don't see her anywhere. She must have just escaped." He says it happened in a split second; the girl couldn't speak, so she couldn't call out, ask for help, or identify herself. For the next 22 hours, hundreds of searchers combed the South Carolina coastline for 5-year-old Saylor Hayes. Once she was found, investigators say everything they thought they knew about her disappearance began to fall apart.
