Your Home Is Worth 20% Less, Trump's Russian Diesel Deal & Paying Tax On A Credit Card | Court of Public Opinion3 dagen geleden20 min

Jeremy Cordeaux is back in the garage with Pete and Gary, and opens by congratulating South Australia's police commissioner Grant Stevens on his appointment as the state's next governor. He marks 25 years since Australia committed to the war in Afghanistan, then turns to a property market where he says values are down 19 to 20 per cent across the country, asking how anyone can call it good news when most people's only significant asset is now worth less. He criticises President Trump's decision to lift the ban on Russian diesel and tell Ukraine not to strike Russian oil refineries, and says he hopes Europe will make up the shortfall.

On immigration, Jeremy says migrants have largely been great contributors to Australia, asks why one million people remain on the dole while jobs go unfilled, and argues a country has every right to be selective about who it lets in. He takes aim at the tax office's credit card decision, with the Treasurer granting small business a reprieve for the rest of the financial year, and says that if the system has forced small business to pay its tax on a credit card, something is terribly wrong. His fix: throw the 17,000 pages of tax law in the bin and start again with a simpler system that rewards achievement. Plus birthday wishes in the garage and this day in history, from William Shatner reaching space and the birth of Margaret Thatcher to Paul Simon, Ian Thorp, Nellie Melba's operatic debut and Nana Mouskouri.
