One In Five Homes Unsold For Six Months, $25 Million For A Pre-COP31 Trip To Fiji & Australia's Oldest Man Turns 113 | Court of Public Opinion
Jeremy Cordeaux is in the garage with Pete and Gary, and opens on a stalled property market: he says 20 per cent of homes for sale have sat unsold for six months, and ties it to the latest RedBridge survey reported in the Australian Financial Review, which has Labor's primary vote at a record low and the personal standing of Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers falling. He questions the $25 million Australia is spending to host a pre-COP31 meeting in Fiji, notes the main conference is in Turkey, which he describes as Europe's biggest coal producer, and argues that after 31 years of these conferences it is fair to ask what they have achieved.
He turns to the Treasurer's appearance on Insiders and the word "responsible", arguing a government should only spend what it has. Jeremy says the national debt is costing $80 million a day in interest, that $23 billion has been added to the cost of electricity and that $75 billion is committed to the green energy transition. He calls for a freeze on public service recruitment, asks whether Thriving Kids simply renames the NDIS problem, says the fuel excise should be removed temporarily, and traces the decline of Australian manufacturing back to the Whitlam government and the Lima Declaration. Plus a happy birthday to Ken Weeks of Grafton, 113, and this day in history from the first sitting of the High Court and The Jazz Singer to Nelson Riddle, the Sabin polio vaccine, The Mousetrap and the launch of Instagram.
