Technical Analysis: How Fibonacci Extensions Map 100% Profit Targets
I'm Steve Barton, host of In It to Win It, and in this solo technical-analysis lesson I break down one of my favorite tools for establishing take-profit targets: the trend-based Fibonacci extension.
Technical Analysis Series
In this episode, I show exactly how I draw Fibonacci extensions from a cycle low to a cycle high and then back to the next significant low, while explaining why it's important to consistently use either candle wicks or candle bodies. Using gold as our first example, we examine the 38.2%, 50%, 61.8%, 78.6%, 100%, and 161.8% extension levels and how traders repeatedly reacted around these areas.
I then apply the same process to the S&P 500, showing how Fibonacci levels can help build a staged selling strategy instead of trying to guess the exact top. We map potential targets around 7,900, 8,050, and higher extension levels before moving into historical platinum bull markets. Finally, I demonstrate that Fibonacci extensions work in both directions, including using a cycle high, cycle low, and subsequent high to calculate downside profit targets for bearish trades.
Key Insights In This Episode

✅ Consistency matters when anchoring Fibonacci points using either candle wicks or candle bodies.
✅ The 61.8%, 100%, and 161.8% extension levels can become important support and resistance zones.
