MAKING JESUS YOUR LORD IS THE RIGHT WAY TO GO

In this milestone 50th episode of Let’s Talk: Truth in Love, Doug and Jess celebrate nearly two years of conversations by returning to one of the most important truths in the Christian life: Jesus is Lord. Way back in Episode 3, they discussed the multifaceted identity of Jesus Christ: Savior, Son of God, King, Lord, the Word, the Christ, the Truth, the Head of the Body, Friend, and Big Brother. After recently revisiting Jesus as Friend, this episode now focuses on what it means to make Jesus your Lord.

Drawing from John 14, Luke 2, Philippians 2, Matthew 28, Psalm 23, John 1, and other key passages, this conversation explores Jesus’ declaration: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” Jesus is not merely one option among many. He is the sure way to everlasting life with the Father and the right way to live life here and now.

Doug and Jess discuss why the idea of “Lord” can be difficult for modern people, especially in a culture that values independence, personal control, and being our own boss. But Scripture reveals that true freedom is not found in independence from God. True freedom is found in living the way we were created to live: under the loving, wise, and trustworthy Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Jesus as Lord means He has all authority in heaven and on earth. He is the One who teaches us how to live, directs our steps, and calls us to trust and obey. But His authority is not harsh, selfish, or controlling like so many human rulers throughout history. Jesus is the good Shepherd who leads His sheep to green pastures, still waters, and paths of righteousness. Even in the valley of the shadow of death, He is with us.

This episode also reminds us that Jesus is more than a great teacher or inspiring example. The New Testament word for Lord points us to the reality that Jesus is God the Son, the eternal Word who became flesh, full of grace and truth. To reduce Jesus to merely a good man is to miss the seriousness of sin, the beauty of the cross, the miracle of salvation, and the transformation that comes when God’s Spirit lives within us.

The central question of this conversation is simple but life-changing: Jesus is Lord, but is He your Lord? We have been given the freedom to choose whether we will trust and obey Him or attempt to live independently on our own terms. But the right way to live, the way that brings freedom, purpose, peace, joy, and eternal hope, is to follow Jes
