ORIOLES POSTCAST: Baltimore Orioles EXPLODE for 5 in 2nd, Topple Toronto Blue Jays | Dylan Beavers, Coby Mayo Go Deep

THE BIG INNING IS BACK, and the Orioles may have just delivered their most important win of September.

Luke Slabaugh reacts to the Baltimore Orioles’ 7-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre to open a pivotal series in the AL Wild Card chase. After an 8-run inning helped Baltimore finish off Cleveland on Wednesday, the O’s jumped all over Max Scherzer for five runs in the second inning on Friday night.

Dylan Beavers set the tone immediately with his first career leadoff home run, then delivered a two-run single in Baltimore’s huge second inning. Heston Kjerstad got the rally started, Colton Cowser ripped a two-run double into the left-field corner, and the Orioles went a perfect 4-for-4 with runners in scoring position during the decisive frame.

Coby Mayo added insurance with his 23rd homer of the season — and he is suddenly heating up against right-handed pitching. Mayo has now homered in back-to-back games against righties, with three homers off right-handers in his last four games.

Chris Bassitt battled through uneven command but limited Toronto to two runs across 5+ innings. Then Josh Walker once again slammed the door, recording four straight outs and extending his scoreless-earned-run streak to 16 consecutive appearances. Walker’s ERA now sits at 1.80.

The Orioles are 3-7 in September and still face a steep Wild Card climb with 14 games remaining. But if Baltimore is going to hunt down Cleveland, Toronto and Texas, this is exactly the kind of statement win the O’s needed.
