Yelena Belova Will Be the Heart of the Avengers

Yelena Belova has come a long way from the Red Room.

Across Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Thunderbolts*, Marvel has quietly taken Yelena through grief, loneliness, guilt, and finally toward something Natasha Romanoff understood better than almost anyone: family.

In this episode of Marvel Maniac, Eric breaks down Yelena’s journey from freeing fellow Widows and forgiving Clint Barton to confronting the void inside herself, saving Bob, and becoming the person others can rely on when everything falls apart.

With Kevin Feige teasing a major role for Yelena in Avengers: Doomsday, could Marvel be preparing her to become the emotional heart of the next generation of Avengers?

Not the strongest Avenger.

Not necessarily the captain.

The heart.

Spoilers for Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Thunderbolts.*
