<p>Mishna Yomi - Ohalos 9:3-4 - By R&#39; Shloimie Friedman</p><p>L&#39;uli Nishmas Etta Ahuva bas Yaakov</p><p><br></p><p>Oct 8, 2026</p><p>Thu</p><p>27 Tishrei 5787</p><p>Ohalos 9:3-4</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Mishnah Ohalos 9:3</strong></p><p><strong>משנה אהלות ט׳:ג׳</strong></p><p>בַּמֶּה דְבָרִים אֲמוּרִים, בִּזְמַן שֶׁהִיא כְלִי מְחֻלְחָלֶת. הָיְתָה פְחוּתָה וּפְקוּקָה בְקַשׁ אוֹ אֲפוּצָה, אֵיזוֹ הִיא אֲפוּצָה, כֹּל שֶׁאֵין לָהּ טֶפַח מִמָּקוֹם אֶחָד, כַּזַּיִת מִן הַמֵּת נָתוּן תַּחְתֶּיהָ, כְּנֶגְדּוֹ עַד הַתְּהוֹם טָמֵא. עַל גַּבָּהּ, כְּנֶגְדּוֹ עַד הָרָקִיעַ טָמֵא. בַּבַּיִת, אֵין טָמֵא אֶלָּא הַבַּיִת. בְּתוֹכָהּ, אֵין טָמֵא אֶלָּא תוֹכָהּ:</p><p><strong>Synopsis from R&#39; Shloimie</strong></p><p>He explains that everything in משנה א׳ and ב׳ was based on the כוורת being a כלי: it is not מציל on what is under it or on top of it, and since it is מחולחלת, the טומאה went from it to the בית.</p><p>But if it is פחותה, broken so it no longer has תורת כלי, and stuffed with קש, or אפוצה, it can be חוצצת and מציל on what is under it and on top of it. Here it is stuffed up with no טפח, so the טומאה has no way to go from inside it to the בית.</p><p>So with a כזית מן המת under it, כנגדו עד התהום is טמא, but above it is טהור, since it is חוצצת. On top of it, כנגדו עד הרקיע is טמא, but underneath is טהור.</p><p>If the טומאה is in the בית, only the house is טמא. He notes our mishnah must be speaking where there is no טפח under the כוורת, since משנה ד׳ deals with a טפח, so it can&#39;t travel from the house to under the כוורת.</p><p>Lastly, טומאה inside the כוורת makes only its inside טמא and everything else is טהור, since it is not מחולחלת, so it is able to be מציל.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Mishnah Ohalos 9:4</strong></p><p><strong>משנה אהלות ט׳:ד׳</strong></p><p>הָיְתָה גְבוֹהָה מִן הָאָרֶץ טֶפַח, טֻמְאָה תַחְתֶּיהָ אוֹ בַבַּיִת, תַּחְתֶּיהָ וְהַבַּיִת טָמֵא, תּוֹכָהּ וְגַבָּהּ טָהוֹר. בְּתוֹכָהּ, אֵין טָמֵא אֶלָּא תוֹכָהּ. עַל גַּבָּהּ, כְּנֶגְדּוֹ עַד הָרָקִיעַ טָמֵא:</p><p><strong>Synopsis from R&#39; Shloimie</strong></p><p>He explains that when there is a טפח from under the כוורת to the ground, טומאה under it or in the בית travels between those two areas, so תחתיה והבית are טמא, while תוכה וגבה are טהור, as in משנה ג׳.</p><p>The only difference from משנה ג׳ is the פותח טפח at the bottom, so the house and the space under the כוורת share space and the טומאה goes from one to the other.</p><p>With טומאה inside it, it is the same as משנה ג׳: אין טמא אלא תוכה
