Here, היה פיה לפנים, the opening faces into the בית, and the כזית מן המת is under it or on top of it, outside.</p><p>Like משנה א׳, we are speaking where it has the הלכה of a כלי, and a כלי is not חוצץ. So the first הלכה is the same דין as משנה א׳: whatever is opposite the כזית, תחתיה and גבה, is טמא.</p><p>We note that the next word, ותוכה, is not so פשוט. As we said on משנה א׳, the רא״ש held that תוכה is טהור even כנגד הכזית, because it is מציל on what is inside it מדין צמיד פתיל. But the גירסא here follows the רמב״ם: even though it is מציל, what is actually כנגד הכזית is טמא even inside.</p><p>We cite the רב חיים, who explains the רמב״ם. Simply, the רא״ש is right that the גירסא should not have תוכה, since צמיד פתיל is מציל even כנגד the טומאה. But the רמב״ם holds that even though צמיד פתיל is מציל, the דין of טומאה רצוצה, which goes straight down, makes whatever is opposite it טמא, even though it doesn&#39;t actually bring the טומאה inside.</p><p>With that, the רב חיים answers the כסף משנה&#39;s קושיא: once the טומאה goes into the barrel, why doesn&#39;t it spread and make the whole barrel טמא? The answer is that it doesn&#39;t really go into the barrel; there is just a הלכה that anything כנגדו is טמא, which is the דין of טומאה רצוצה.</p><p>The second הלכה is the same as משנה א׳: כל שאינו כנגד הזית, תוכה והבית טהור, and here תוכה is certainly טהור, since it is מציל מדין צמיד פתיל.</p><p>The only חילוק between משנה ה׳ and משנה א׳ is the last הלכה. In משנה א׳, with פיה לחוץ, טומאה in the בית made only the בית טמא, and טומאה בתוכה made only תוכה טמא.
