"We're Out, We're Gone" — $8M Washington Tax Sends Columbia Bank To Arizona

<p>Columbia Banking System is relocating its top executives to Scottsdale, Arizona — and they're not hiding the reason. Washington's new corporate tax structure is costing the company $8 million a year, a bill large enough to prompt CEO Clint Stein to sell his Auburn home for $2.45 million and establish permanent residency in Arizona. The Scottsdale executive office opens this month.</p><p>Washington's political leadership continues to insist its tax policies aren't pushing anyone out. Columbia Bank just proved otherwise. Stein says the official headquarters address stays in the Pacific Northwest — for now.
