Channeled Art, Horror Movies & Your True Self with Joaquin Escobar — Part 3 of 6 | Classics Rotation

In what he calls one of his most controversial takes, Joaquin Escobar argues that much art and pop culture is channeled rather than invented, and that horror and "torture porn" films feed an adrenaline cycle much like other addictions. The conversation then moves to Qigong's goal of returning to your childlike "original self," making this part a good listen for anyone interested in media conditioning, spiritual practice and living outside society's boxes.

Joaquin points to Daniel Day-Lewis channeling his father in a role and to films such as Hellraiser, Akira and Alien, saying he believes Clive Barker channeled the Hellraiser creatures rather than inventing them. He says franchises like Saw and Hostel escalate the way porn does and that traumatized people gravitate to such films. The host says her sister, a pediatrician, has seen teenage girls hurt in first sexual experiences by boys copying what they watched, and both call this societal programming and dehumanization. Asked how to counter it, Joaquin stresses that he is not the only one with answers, recommends fasting, diet and choosing who you spend time with, and says he believes addictions can be thought forms that siphon energy. He says Qigong and the esoteric martial arts aim to keep the lightness of childhood, and the host shares a mushroom-journey realization that the Oneness learns most when each person lives as their most unique self. Joaquin compares this with two artist characters from the anime Naruto, one who freezes life into perfect puppets and one who sees art as an explosion, and both criticize false two-party choices and copycat products. The part closes with the host wishing for flying cars and teleportation pods, and a mention of the room-temperature superconductor claim from South Korea that was in the news at the time of the original recording, before the host asks who holds hidden technology.
