Dr. Peter McCullough on Alzheimer’s, Cancer—and the Health Questions Dividing America

This is StRest! Kerstin Lindquist sits down with Dr. Peter A. McCullough, an internist, cardiologist and epidemiologist, for a wide-ranging conversation about Alzheimer’s risk, cancer detection, obesity, COVID-19, vaccines and the daily choices he believes can protect long-term health. Kerstin begins with a clear disclaimer: several of his positions are controversial, and her goal is to help listeners hear another perspective, ask questions and speak with their own doctors.

Dr. McCullough explains why Alzheimer’s is personal. His father died with the disease, his mother is currently living with it, and he is focused on protecting his own cognition. He discusses body weight, alcohol, outdoor movement, ApoE genetics, newer blood testing and the choices people may make when they better understand their risk.

Kerstin and Dr. McCullough also examine inherited cancer risk, whole-body MRI, blood-based cancer testing and why standard screening such as colonoscopy still matters. The conversation then moves into his views on the pandemic, COVID-19 vaccination, routine childhood vaccination, nasal sprays, gargling and public trust in medicine.

The episode closes with where he finds hope and the health practices he considers non-negotiable: food quality, portion control, aerobic and strength training, time outside, sleep and avoiding alcohol. He also explains why he encourages some patients to try 90 alcohol-free days and observe what happens to their sleep.
