The Strait Times Reports:- Netflix cuts of film and TV executives hint at programming woesNieuw2 min

Netflix laid off several high-profile film and television executives on Oct 14 amid a broader round of job cuts, as the company struggles to find its next generation of hits.

Among the senior people let go were Doug Belgrad, a former Sony Pictures executive, and Carolina Garcia, director of original TV series, who worked on shows such as Stranger Things and 13 Reasons Why.

The cuts also involved staff in series development, independent film acquisition and publicity.

A spokesman declined to comment on the layoffs, which fell more heavily on Netflix’s tech, legal, human resources and product departments.

While regular dispatchings have long been part of Netflix’s corporate culture, the size of the latest cuts – some 6% of staff or around 1,000 people – was extraordinary.
