If eight wins was the goal before the season, seven wins doesn't suddenly become a success because the Tigers struggled early. Auburn has invested too much money and too many resources to celebrate falling short of expectations.

That doesn't mean improvement should be ignored.

Auburn can take meaningful steps forward without reaching the standard. Both things can be true. But there's a difference between recognizing progress and lowering the bar so the program can claim success.
