October 11 | Desperate Prayer

Today's reading from Isaiah 37–38 and Colossians 3 invites us to reflect on how we respond when life brings us news we never wanted to hear. Both passages remind us that faith is formed over time as we learn to bring every part of our lives honestly before God.

In Isaiah, King Hezekiah receives threatening words from the king of Assyria and carries them straight into the temple, spreading the letter before the Lord in raw, desperate prayer. Later, facing a grave illness, he turns his face to the wall and weeps before God once more. Through both moments, we see a king learning where his true identity and security rest, returning again and again to the One who alone is God.

In Colossians, Paul calls believers to set their minds on things above and to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, and patience. He invites them to let the peace of Christ rule in their hearts, and the word of Christ dwell in them richly, pointing to a life of awareness and calling that flows from belonging to Him.

Together, these passages invite us to consider what we do with the reports that weigh on us. They ask us to reflect on whether we carry them alone or bring them before God, trusting Him even when we cannot see how the story will unfold.
