<p>The math ain&#39;t mathing this week! One of the Bible&#39;s most skipped genealogies hides within its census one of the biggest challenges to the way many of us were taught to read the Bible.</p><p>Compare Nehemiah&#39;s genealogy with Ezra 2, and you&#39;ll discover something surprising: the lists are the same, but the names and numbers only match up about half the time. Throw in the third version preserved in 1 Esdras, and the picture gets even messier. For many Christians, discrepancies like these feel threatening because we&#39;ve been taught the Bible has to behave like a modern spreadsheet. But what if that&#39;s never what scripture was trying to be?
