440: My Uncle Jack, Corvettes, Gold Impalas & Lynyrd Skynyrd

Some podcast episodes have been years in the making. This one has been more like a lifetime.

This week on The Collector Car Podcast, I finally sit down with my Uncle Jack to talk about the cars, stories and people that have been part of his life for more than 60 years.

At the center of the story is his Anniversary Gold 1963 Chevrolet Impala, a car he has owned since 1966. We also get into his lifelong love affair with Corvettes, including his 1967 Corvette, which has been part of the family since 1974.

But then the conversation takes a turn I don't think many people will see coming.

Long before Lynyrd Skynyrd became one of the most famous rock bands in the world, some of the future band members were neighborhood kids in Jacksonville, Florida, learning to play music in a garage. And Uncle Jack was there.

He shares his memories of those early days—including the future rock stars borrowing his Kingsmen album as they were figuring out how to make music of their own.

It's an episode about cars, family, music and the strange way our personal histories sometimes intersect with much bigger stories. Most of all, it's a chance for me to finally capture some of Uncle Jack's stories while I can—and share them with you.
