How to Cast Your Anxiety on God | 1 Peter 5:7

How to Cast Your Anxiety on God | 1 Peter 5:7Nieuw6 min

Our text today is 1 Peter 5:7:

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. — 1 Peter 5:7

Some burdens feel too important to put down.

We tell ourselves that continuing to think about them is responsible. If we stop rehearsing the possibilities, anticipating every problem, or trying to control every outcome, something may fall apart. But responsibility can slowly become the belief that everything depends on us.

Yesterday, Peter told us to humble ourselves under God's mighty hand. Today, he shows us what humility does with the weight it cannot carry:

"Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."

This verse is not disconnected from the one that came before it. Casting our anxieties on God is how we humble ourselves before Him. We acknowledge that we are limited and cannot carry every person, problem, or possibility.

Humility declares, "I am responsible to obey God, but I am not sovereign over the outcome."

Peter tells us to cast our anxieties on God. The idea is to cast a weight onto someone or something strong enough to bear it. And we are to cast it all.

That concern that keeps you awake.

That conversation you cannot control.

That child you cannot protect.
