Before There Was Texas: My Family and Austin’s First Settlers
Episode 100 — The Hidden History of Texas
Welcome to the Hidden History of Texas. I'm your host, Hank Wilson.
Well, here we are.
Episode number one hundred.
When I first began this podcast, I wanted to tell stories about Texas that weren't always found in our history books. Not simply the famous battles, the politicians, or the larger-than-life personalities, but the ordinary people whose lives helped shape the place we call home.
And over the course of ninety-nine episodes, we've traveled through centuries of history.
We've explored Spanish Texas, Mexican Texas, the Republic, the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the generations that followed.
We've talked about the people who came here seeking opportunity, the people who were already here, and those who were brought here against their will.
We've explored communities that flourished, communities that disappeared, and people whose contributions were sometimes forgotten.
But for this hundredth episode, I thought we'd do something a little different.
We're going to take a journey back to 1821.
And this time, I have a personal connection to the story.
