Canada Immigration Future: Carney And Ford Want More While Poilievre Says Origin Doesn't Matter

<p>Is Canada immigration about to change? Because our leaders just showed us where they stand and tonight on The Political Orphans, I break down what Canada&#39;s immigration future could look like if our political leaders get their way.</p><p><br></p><p>Mark Carney told The New York Times it&#39;s time to resume &quot;some controlled increase in the population,&quot; adding &quot;that will happen.&quot; By law, the Liberals must table the annual Immigration Levels Plan on or before November 1, so we won&#39;t have to wait long to see the numbers. Doug Ford called the idea of sending temporary workers home &quot;the craziest thing I have ever heard&quot; and said &quot;we need people.&quot; So I look at what happened to Ontario&#39;s population during his eight years as premier: from 14.3 million to 16.3 million, with about 98% of the net growth coming from immigration. Then there&#39;s Pierre Poilievre, who says it doesn&#39;t matter whether your name is Smith or Singh, Poilievre or Patel.</p><p><br></p><p>I also look at Carney&#39;s push for EU &quot;associate member&quot; status, the Leger poll showing 70% support for a status nobody has defined yet, and the talks about letting Canadians live and work in Europe visa-free. What would that mean in the other direction? Since 2000, Canada&#39;s population has grown 36%, from 30.7 million to 41.8 million.
