AFTER DARK | The Midnight Children

Whatever happens, never answer your door after midnight.

That was the warning an old woman gave to a young couple who had just moved into a quiet suburban neighborhood outside Houston.

At first, they thought it was nothing more than an unsettling attempt to scare the new neighbors.

But this neighborhood has always been strange.

Nobody talks to each other. Nobody visits. Curtains move when someone walks past, but the people behind them never come outside. And when Steven and Joey move in, they quickly discover that their new neighbors seem to be hiding something.

Then, one night at 12:43 AM, the narrator wakes up to the sound of children laughing outside.

When he looks through his bedroom window, he sees two children standing beneath a streetlight.

They’re barefoot.

They’re completely still.

And they’re staring directly at Steven and Joey’s front door.

Then they walk up the driveway and knock.
