AFTER DARK | The Scarecrow in the Field

He swore the scarecrow moved…

It was September on a farm outside Lincoln, Nebraska. Harvest season was approaching, the temperatures were dropping, and the family cornfields stretched for hundreds of acres.

But something was wrong with the scarecrows.

After spending days helping his father prepare the farm for an unusually early harvest, a farmer’s son discovers that one of the scarecrows he built years ago has mysteriously disappeared. He searches through the endless rows of corn, following strange sounds and noticing crows behaving in ways he can’t explain.

Then, just before sunset, he finds it.

The scarecrow is standing in the middle of the cornfield.

But he never put it there.

Wearing worn blue jeans, an old flannel shirt, a burlap mask, and a dirty hat he doesn’t remember giving it, the scarecrow seems almost… different.

That night, the strange rustling returns.

But this time, it’s coming from outside his farmhouse.

When he looks out his bedroom window, he sees something that turns his blood an icy cold…
