Liz Kamlet, better known online as Liz The Music Manager, has spent most of her life somewhere behind the curtain of the music business. She started shooting tour photography as a teenager, worked around artists like James Taylor, Jackson Browne and Kenny Loggins, somehow became the person Guitar Center called when a famous musician wanted to buy a vintage guitar, and eventually found herself managing artists, running tours and helping musicians navigate an increasingly strange industry.

On this episode of The Tone Mob Podcast, Liz joins me to talk about how all of that happened and, more importantly, what independent artists should actually be doing in 2026.

We get into building an online presence, networking, co-writing, getting people to care about your original music, the real cost of releasing records, why a record deal shouldn't necessarily be the goal, and why you absolutely need someone qualified to look at a contract before you sign it.

Liz also shares some genuinely wild stories from behind the scenes, including artists getting ripped off for millions of dollars, questionable industry tactics, disappearing musicians, stolen guitars and the time she broke BOTH of her forearms saving one of James Taylor's guitars from taking a dive off the stage at Red Rocks.
