Speak Your Truth
How Honest Conversation Can Deepen Intimacy In Your Relationship
The WISDOM Podcast with Dorothy Zennuriye Juno
How well can someone truly know us if we aren't allowing ourselves to be fully known?
Two people can love one another, build a life together and share decades of experiences — and still hold back parts of themselves.
Not necessarily secrets.
Sometimes it's a preference. A disappointment. Something you need. Something you want but haven't asked for. Something you've changed your mind about. Something your partner does that bothers you. Something you think or feel but decide is easier not to say.
In this episode of The WISDOM Podcast, we explore what it means to speak your truth in an intimate relationship — and why honest conversation can become an invitation into deeper intimacy.
Speaking your truth isn't about saying everything that enters your mind or using honesty as permission to be insensitive or cruel. Relational honesty asks for something more: ownership, care and a willingness to let another person know what is true for you.
We explore why some of us learn to accommodate rather than speak, how seemingly small moments of withholding can accumulate over time, and why there is an important difference between peace and simply avoiding the truths that might disturb one another.
You'll also learn a simple practice for beginning these conversations: giving your truth a preface — helping your partner understand that you're not trying to attack or necessarily asking them to fix something; you're practising allowing yourself to be known.
