What is War?

This week we talk about the nature of man and the debate on this nature including two of the thinkers most often citied in this debate, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Thomas Hobbes. We talk about their idea of how man and state effect each other, and the roll the state plays in war. We also cover different definitions of war and if they are accurate. Do these definitions cover tribal societies? Can tribal societies participate in war in any regard? What are the similarities and differences between tribal and state conflicts?
