God’s Peace When the World Feels Unsteady

God’s Peace When the World Feels Unsteady12 okt6 min

A world can fall apart with a single sentence. A phone call on an early October morning. A father's voice from a hospital. A few words that shift the ground beneath your feet and leave you wondering how the sun can possibly rise after what just happened.

That is the nature of loss in any form. Nothing is the same afterward.

And yet the earth keeps spinning. Other people's ordinary Tuesdays continue. The world moves forward in a way that feels almost offensive when something inside you has stopped. The pain cuts to the innermost and leaves a wound that will not fully heal, at least not on this side of heaven.

Jesus knew this was coming for His disciples. On the night before His arrest, He told them plainly: in this world you will have tribulation. Not might. Will. The suffering was not a surprise to Him, and it is not a surprise to Him now, in whatever form it has arrived in your life tonight.

But He did not stop there. Take heart, He said. I have overcome the world.

That word, overcome, is past tense. It is not a future promise waiting to be fulfilled. It is already accomplished. The darkness cannot overcome the One who is the Light. And those who trust in Him are held within a victory that was secured before they knew they needed it.

We are in the in-between. The promises are not yet fully visible. Wars, illness, natural disasters, death, fractured relationships, all of it still real and still painful. But all of it also held within the assurance of what Christ has already done and what He has promised to complete. The uncertainty of today is not forever. The loss is not the end of the story. He is coming again, and on that day, all things will be made new.

Until then, His peace finds us even in the sorrow of looking at shattered pieces. A peace that surpasses understanding. Greater, truer words spoken over us than anything the world can say.

Take heart. He has overcome.

Ponder Tonight

Jesus told His disciples about tribulation and His overcoming in the same breath, which means His peace was never offered as the absence of trouble but as something that coexists with it and ultimately outlasts it.

We live in the in-between, after Christ's victory and before its complete fulfillment. That position is real and sometimes painful, but it is not one of uncertainty about the outcome. The outcome is already settled.
