AI could kill all humans. So why are the people building it refusing to slow down?

A former Anthropic employee has reportedly estimated that there is more than a 10% chance AI could cause human extinction within the next decade. Anthropic co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei has also warned that AI development is moving too quickly and called for the industry to “pace the frontier”.

The shocking part? The biggest names in AI, including Sam Altman, Elon Musk and Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis, broadly agree that AI needs to slow down.

But none of them seem willing to hit the brakes.
