On a clear autumn morning in November 1953, two men walked onto the tarmac of Gardena Airport in Southern California, chartered a small two-seater plane, and took off into the western sky. They had only three hours of fuel in the tank and no filed flight plan. They were never seen again.

The men were two amateur electrical researchers deeply embedded in the strange, burgeoning world of 1950s flying saucer contactees. Their home offices were lined with alien glyphs, homemade radios, and classified equations. One even claimed he was receiving direct transmissions from extraterrestrials and had pinpointed a landed saucer waiting out in the desolate California wilderness.
