Reaction Time: Iowa State Wrestling’s New Era! Roster Questions, Fan Experience and More

Iowa State wrestling is back, and the Brent Metcalf era officially begins this weekend! Jacqueline Cordova and Ben Visser return for a new season of Reaction Time on Cyclone Fanatic to preview the Cyclones’ 2026-27 wrestling season, break down the new-look roster, and discuss what to expect under Iowa State’s new head coach.

The first dual against Bucknell is almost here, and the biggest questions surround the lineup, the newcomers, and how Metcalf’s approach will translate to the mat. The crew highlights Coby Merrill’s transition to collegiate folkstyle wrestling, Evan Frost moving up to 141 pounds, the return of Pinero Johnson, and the wrestlers who could play key roles in an uncertain lineup.

Plus, Jacqueline and Ben discuss Iowa State’s No. 8 team ranking, Metcalf’s emphasis on attacking and scoring points, his plans to improve the fan experience at Hilton Coliseum, and the idea of bringing students closer to the mat. They also look at Iowa State’s upcoming schedule, recruiting implications, and the continued development of the Cyclones’ women’s wrestling program.
