DG Rewind | When a Child Inspires the Story | Mary Ann Seeger
Give Mary Ann Seeger one word and there's a good chance she'll turn it into a story.
For more than thirty years, Mary Ann has been creating stories for children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her unusual method is wonderfully simple: ask a child for a word, learn a little about that child, and then let her imagination take over.
Now those stories are becoming books through her Silver Fox Series. In this conversation with Dan DeBruler, Mary Ann shares how decades of storytelling finally became a publishing adventure, where characters like Bobo the chicken and a purple fox come from, and what it's like to hand a child a published book inspired by their own idea.
Mary Ann also shares details about her September 26 book signing at Barnes & Noble in Fayetteville—and issues a challenge to young readers who think they can come up with a word she can't turn into a story.
Her answer? “Yes, I can.”
