Jane Doe Drops Leon Black Case Without Retracting Allegations (10/19/26)New13 min

A federal judge dismissed with prejudice the civil lawsuit brought against Leon Black by an anonymous woman who had accused him of raping her after she was allegedly “handed off” to him by Jeffrey Epstein. The woman, identified as Jane Doe, said she had been a teenager when the alleged assault occurred in 2002. She asked the court to end the case because she was “medically incapable of continuing,” saying that prolonged litigation had placed her at risk of an acute psychiatric crisis and that her treating physician had repeatedly advised her to disengage. Doe stressed that her request was not a retraction of her allegations, an admission that Black’s denials were correct, or a concession on the merits. Black had consistently denied the allegations, and his attorneys said the dismissal involved no settlement, compromise or payment from Black. Because the case was dismissed with prejudice, Doe cannot refile the same claims.

The dismissal came after a difficult procedural history for Doe, who had been representing herself after her former attorneys withdrew from the case. Judge Jessica Clarke had previously sanctioned Doe and one of her former lawyers for what the court described as serious misconduct, including false representations to the court, but had nevertheless allowed the underlying lawsuit to continue. At the time Doe sought dismissal, both sides were preparing to review thousands of pages of Epstein-related records for possible public release, a process Doe said was worsening her medical condition because it required her to repeatedly confront graphic material concerning sexual abuse and personal records. The end of the civil case did not resolve the truth of the underlying rape allegation, and it did not end the broader scrutiny surrounding Black, who has separately faced congressional pressure over his extensive financial relationship with Epstein and his refusal to comply with House Oversight subpoenas.
