We're on the way from Brooklyn toward Manhattan after a beautiful darshan with Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj, talking about how a grihasta, a householder, can care for money and resources without losing sight of what really matters. Sometimes the spiritual practice is chanting. Sometimes it's saving the little bottle of water from the plane. Sometimes it's walking across the bridge because the subway fare adds up. Seven dollars here, seven dollars there, and suddenly ... you're walking.

We also share a little about friendship in spiritual life, why trust and respect take time, and why association with sincere, saintly people is so precious. Not every connection is meant to become an intimate friendship. The heart needs care, too.

And then we head toward Tompkins Square Park, where Bhaktivedanta Swami began chanting beneath the famous Hare Krishna tree in 1966.
