<p>When archivist Daniel Mercer prises open a box buried beneath a storm-felled tree in Vermont&#39;s Bennington Triangle, he expects old paper and rust. What he finds is a ranger&#39;s field log, a compass, and a photograph of three real missing people standing together — decades apart. On the back, four words in a shaking hand: <em>Don&#39;t look behind him.</em> The deeper Mercer reads into the ranger&#39;s journal, the more its entries begin to fracture — and the more he realises he isn&#39;t investigating a disappearance. He&#39;s being pulled into one.</p><p>In our Tales from the Shadows series, we take real unsolved mysteries — true disappearances, hauntings and unexplained events — and reimagine them as fiction.
