In Luke 14 1–11, Jesus exposes how the quiet pursuit of status—even something as ordinary as choosing a seat—reveals the peril of pride. The sermon traces how pride steals joy, fuels comparison, resists correction, hides itself, and gives rise to other sins, while showing why neither indifference to honor nor mere religiosity can create true humility. True humility grows through grace: God, the host, gives honor rather than it being seized, and Christ takes the lowest place so sinners can be welcomed as friends and follow him downward in love.
