THE PEOPLE WERE DISPERSED

I hope you have a sense that God has overwhelmed you with good things. Blessed you beyond what you deserve. What’s maddening for those of us who do indeed realize this is that despite his goodness, we still freely and often rebel against him. It is like we can’t help ourselves. We love him. Confess him as Saviour. Serve him. And. Still. Sin. Against. Him. So, those of us with a conscience and the indwelling Spirt bear the shame of that, knowing it exposes us to his righteous judgment, or at the very least, his discipline. And all along, we know from the countless narratives in the Bible that he continually offers up hope, working out his will with all the ups and downs to provide a Saviour for us, a clear path to forgiveness and life. Far from being a fun little children’s story about God rescuing a few people and the animals from a global flood, the account of Noah’s life is about our rescue from the far greater threat of sin and eternal separation from God. Over the past three Sundays, we’ve been examining the story of Noah and the flood, and it concludes this Sunday as we see the aftermath in Noah’s life. God had renewed the covenant with humanity as the floods subsided and the rainbow filled the sky, and despite all he experienced and the goodness of God in his life, Noah broke the covenant and sinned. And he is me. And you. We’ll find a ton of help in Genesis 9:18 to 10:32 this week as we navigate this in our own lives. I’m looking forward to being back at it with you!
