Rest & Motherhood

Rest can feel almost impossible in motherhood. We tell ourselves, I'll rest when the baby sleeps through the night...when the kids can play together...when they're all in school...when this busy season settles down.

But what happens when we finally reach that next season- and life is still full?

Today we are revisiting one of the very first topics we ever talked about on Silly Sheep: REST. And if we're honest, we need the reminder just as much as anyone.

We talk about the difference between physical rest and the deeper, soul-level rest our hearts are actually longing for. So often, when we're overwhelmed, we instinctively reach for something that promises relief- a show, our phones, scrolling, shopping, food, productivity, or simply checking one more thing off the list. None of those things are necessarily bad, but they can become a "covering too narrow" when we expect them to give us something only Jesus can provide.

True rest isn't ultimately found in a quieter schedule, an easier season, or finally getting everything done. True rest is found in a PERSON.

Jesus invites us. (Matt. 11:28)

In this episode, we talk about...

- Why we continually tell ourselves "we will rest when..."

- Identifying the "counterfeit rest" we instinctively reach for when we are depleted

-The picture of a "covering too narrow" and why earthly comforts never satisfy

- Creating margin

-Learning to prayerfully discern our yeses and nos

-Why rest isn't lazy or selfish

- Letting go of the belief that everything depends on us

- Processing our days instead of simply collapsing at the end of them

- Resting not just can feel better, but so we can continue pouring ourselves out for the people God has called us to love

Our prayer for this week is that we would stop waiting for the perfect season to rest and instead learn to find rest right where we are- in the presence of Jesus.

_ _

Email us sillysheeppodcast@gmail.com with any topic suggestions!
