Ep. 59 | The Salem Witch Trials Part I, with guest Brenda from Horrifying History
Part 1 — The Salem Witch Trials
You may think you know the story of the Salem Witch Trials but much of what we remember today isn’t quite what happened.
This week, we’re joined by Brenda from Horrifying History to take us back to Salem in 1692 and unpack the fear, religion, politics and personal grudges that helped turn suspicion into hysteria. We talk about the first accusations, Tituba, the use of spectral evidence, the people who were imprisoned and executed, and Giles Corey’s brutal death by pressing.
How did an entire community reach the point where neighbors, friends and even family members were accusing one another of witchcraft? And what finally brought the trials to an end?
And make sure you come back for Part Two, when we leave 1692 behind and ask: Is Salem haunted today?
