Study shows post-release supervision reduces reoffending in short and long run

Ben Cooper is joined by Dr Markus Gehrsitz and Dr Sam Grant to talk about their latest research on post-release supervision of offenders and it's impact on reducing reoffending in the UK.

Over the past few years, criminal justice systems across the UK have come under growing scrutiny as rising prison populations have placed sustained pressure on already stretched prison services. With overcrowding becoming an increasing problem, there has been growing interest in the role of community-based alternatives to time spent in custody, and whether they can better support long-term reductions in reoffending. There has also been the use of emergency legislation to enable the early release of some prisoners into the community across the UK.
