EPISODE 84 – “Good News That Confronts Empire”
Live Service for Jan. 28th 2025
Pastor Charles W. Ferguson

Text: Luke 2:10–14 (ESV)
Reflection
The announcement of Jesus has always been political. “Good news” is not neutral language—it directly confronts empire. Peace proclaimed by heaven stands in contrast to peace enforced by violence. God does not side with domination; God sides with those crushed beneath it.
Societal Lens
Modern empire hides behind bureaucracy, nationalism, and enforcement agencies that claim security while producing fear. When ICE operates without accountability, when power targets the vulnerable, the gospel stands in opposition. Faithfulness means choosing people over policy when policy destroys lives.
Spiritual Practice
Commit one act of nonviolent resistance or solidarity this week. Attend a community meeting, accompany an immigrant family, or support organizers working for justice. Let your faith interrupt the machinery of harm.
