Ep. 503 I “FOMO”: THE FEAR OF MISSING OUT. HOW THE INVESTOR CAN KEEP IT IN CHECK
In everyday life, fomo shows itself when one acts out of an inner impulse that arises because others have already achieved something desirable that threatens to slip away if one does not do what the others are doing. fomo can strike investors in particular. For example, one buys a stock not because one’s own careful analysis recommends it, but because friends and acquaintances are enjoying strong price gains for their investments, or because one has somehow gained the impression that whoever does not get in now will remain permanently on the outside. What is happening here? Answer: the decision to buy (or sell) a stock shifts from the careful assessment of the investment idea to comparison with other investors. Not good! We tell you why, and what can be done to keep FOMO in check, defuse it. Recorded October 8, 2026.
