A thief, a Killer and an American devil in Grand Canyon

This account traces the case of Danny Ray Horning, from the discovery of a dismembered body in a California river and the forensic work that tied him to the murder, through his armed bank robbery in Arizona, his disguised walk out of a maximum security prison, and the seven week manhunt that forced the closure of the Grand Canyon over a holiday weekend. It closes with his conviction, his death sentence affirmed on appeal, and a reflection on the lessons it holds about investigative patience, institutional failure, retaliation against witnesses, and the human cost borne by his victims.
